This layout shows the combination of the five and two times table (in Australia, taught from Year 1). The visual layout of the number patterns is evident. Neuroimaging shows us that our brains lend themselves toward thinking visually about mathematics. Two of the five different pathways that are enacted when engaging in mathematics are visual (the ventral and dorsal pathways) .These designs capitalise upon that visual ability and consolidate understanding about number patterns.
